I've started something new at the studio this month - The BlushPretty Presents Events (oohhh - that rhymes). Taking its cue from The Beauty Board, BlushPretty Presents is a way for beauty bloggers and lovers to experience and learn about new brands and/or products on a smaller, one-on-one scale. Just like a book club, I'm hoping that the BlushPretty Presents Events (I'm never going to stop saying that) become an opportunity for the beauty obsessed to come together once a month and do what we do best: um, er, obsess. you know, over beauty stuff.
This month, we were lucky to start of with Simple Skincare. Fresh on North American soil, Simple Skincare has always been the UK's skincare brand of choice and they are hoping to have the same popularity here in Canada and the US. The debuted in early May 2012 and I'm sure you've seen this brand popping up everywhere.
On Thursday May 24, 2012, I welcomed in two groups of ladies to put the line to the test - they swatched, swabbed, and smeared on every product from the exfoliating scrub to the toner to the eye balm. Eye makeup was coming off, dead skin cells were being sloughed, and skin was being massaged and lathered with moisturizer - this is what a beauty-like book club would be about, right?
Anyway, throughout it all, the same comments kept popping up: "I love that it's unscented"; "I like that the exfoliating items exfoliate but aren't harsh"; "My skin feels really fresh!"
Alysia from Mississauga - she loved the cleansing cloths! She said they were refreshing and didn't leave your skin feeling sticky as others do. She also love the toner which she felt didn't smell or feel medicinal.
Samantha from Toronto agrees about the cloths and thinks the size of them are perfect - not so big that it's wasteful and not so small that you need more than one to really clean the face. She gave the thumbs up to the lotions which are hydrating but doesn't leave a film or sheen on the face.
Donna from North York agrees with Alysia that the toner and wipes are gentle and don't sting. And like Samantha, she believes the wipes are thick and durable. She was also surprised by the night cream - she expected it to be much thicker, but it was light, felt great and moisturized.
Naomi was a fan of the toner; Elaine, a fan of the way the products felt after application: not greasy or filmy; and Anne and Shen believe the exfoliating products were gentle enough that it would work for their sensitive skin.
That's just the tip of the iceberg for all the comments and reviews made that night. If I had to summarize, on a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being "you bet!" and 1 being "not so much"), whether the ladies thought Simple Skincare is a skincare brand worth checking out, I would give it a solid 10. The price points (from approximately $8.99 and up), the range of product, and the ease of mixing and matching a selection of products for your routine made this brand super favourable to all in attendance.
A big thank you to all those who attended last Thursday.
