I really hope you all enjoyed the reviews from the past two weeks that focused on the guests reviews of the brands and companies that were large and in charge at The Beauty Board. While you were busy reading those posts, I managed to sneak away for awhile to Hawaii (rub, rub, rub it in some more!) where, even though I did answer some emails and book some dates for the team, I managed to sneak in some much needed R'n'R. And let me tell you - I totally take for granted rest and relaxation.
Being away and unplugged for nine days is really hard for me. My mother yells at me everytime we vacation together saying that I can never get away from my iPad. And she's right - I can't.
I'm a big believer that communication and customer service is the reason my business has grown and when I have a vacation scheduled I can't push aside the idea that something WILL go wrong if I don't answer that email or take that appointment, etc. The idea that I might lose a potential booking for a team member if I delay sending an email until I return; or the thought of a bride going berserk when she hasn't heard from me in 48 hours ... it all frightens me. Not working on the growth of my business at any given time of the day is scuuuuuurrrrrrryyyyy!
But during this vacation, I had no choice. At times, very lengthy periods of time, I had no internet connection, no phone. It was just me, my children, and some blue water and sandy beach.
And this vacation is when it hit me.
A little bit of R'n'R doesn't mean JUST rest and relaxation. It also means revitalize and rejuvenate. And by indulging myself in some rest and relaxation the revitalization and rejuvenation traipsed along right behind it and I realized something ... even though I wasn't plugged in 24/7, working on social media or blogging or nailing down dates with brides, I was still working on business!
How?
Because the R'n'R revitalized and rejuvenated my thinking, my business mind, and the creativity in me. Lots of ideas came to mind as I walked under palm trees and saw every beautifully coloured flower and yelled at my children to stay close because I only have two sets of eyes and two pairs of hands (hey, even though I'm yelling - it's still quality time in Hawaii!). In addition, I felt better about me, period. The way I physically felt, looked, carried myself. I was calm and stress free (until my flight home - I hate you United Airlines) which gave me a better outlook on EVERYTHING.
So, my beauty tip of the day - for all you Type A chicks out there who need to micromanage EVERYTHING you do - is:
LET GO!

p.s. I never realized until I spell-checked this document that "beserk" is actually BER-serk. go figure.
Welcome back!
